Family Occasions

Weardale Methodist Church encompasses fellowships from Ireshopeburn and St John's Chapel at the top of the Dale to Stanhope and Frosterley at the bottom. The only church building in use is the one at Stanhope, which has been part of the local community for over 200 years. During that time, the church (fellowship and building) has helped many families to celebrate births and weddings and also to mourn loved ones. We continue to do this today.

Baptism or Thanksgiving

Our minister is very happy to talk with you about the baptism of your new baby or young child. Please contact him by telephone or email to arrange a visit to discuss your wishes further.

Baptism is the way that we enter the Church. The Baptism Service requires parents to make promises, before God, that they will ensure that their child is brought up in the Christian faith so that they can learn about God and be enabled to make their own decision about the Christian life. These promises need to be taken seriously and made only after careful consideration as to whether you can keep them. Baptisms can take place during the usual Sunday morning service or in a separate service at another time.

If you feel that the baptism promises are more than you are prepared to take on we can offer a service of  Thanksgiving and Blessing, where we thank God for the new life that He has given and ask His blessing upon the new baby.

If you want more information on ether or both of these services, please contact the minister.

Weddings

Couples wishing to be married at Stanhope Methodist Church should first of all contact the minister who will arrange an initial interview, at a mutually convenient time.  The minister should be contacted before other arrangements are made.

Funerals

If you would like a loved-one's funeral to be held in the church the arrangements will be made by the Funeral Director, who will contact the minister to make the necessary arrangements. Our minister can also conduct the full funeral at the Crematorium.

We can also provide refreshments after the funeral is this is required.
